Question by mdnewsguy: Is it legal for doctors to prescribe human growth hormones to patients who have a failure to thrive condition?I have a condition that my doctor called "failure to thrive." In other words, I cannot gain weight by eating, lifting, or any other means. I am very very thin. He told me he is not allowed to prescribe hormones but told me that if i go to an endocrynologist and they might be able to, but i read they are illegal to people as a means to gain weight. but what if it is our only option?

If your difficulty to gain weight is due the physical illness, I do not think it should be illegal to prescribe growth hormones. But first they need to make sure that indeed your body is producing unnaturally low quantities of hormone by itself.
