I have a condition that my doctor called "failure to thrive." In other words, I cannot gain weight by eating, lifting, or any other means. I am very very thin. He told me he is not allowed to prescribe hormones but told me that if i go to an endocrynologist and they might be able to, but i read they are illegal to people as a means to gain weight. but what if it is our only option?

If your difficulty to gain weight is due the physical illness, I do not think it should be illegal to prescribe growth hormones. But first they need to make sure that indeed your body is producing unnaturally low quantities of hormone by itself.

Human growth hormone (HGH) is appropriate for a very narrow range of medical conditions and should only be taken under the direction of a physician.
