This urban legend has been going around for a very long time. I want to know how true it is. Does lifting weights when your a teenager, stunts your growth?

I don't see why it would. It builds muscle mass.

ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeletelifting weights actually gets more blood to your muscle and bone, meaning more calcium to where you need it, rather than uselessly peeing it out. exercise also increases hgh (human growth hormone), and a bodybuilder like diet increases hgh.

some notable bodybuilders/weightlifters/powerlifters that started lifting young and are tall: arnold swarchzenneger (started 16yo, 6'1), lou ferrigno (teens, 6'5), markus ruhl (teens, 5'11, 300+ lb). not a big list, but i dont keep up with bodybuilding too much.
anecdotal evidence: did my first bicep curl at 12. didnt get serious until 16. 5'11, and asian, if that makes a difference
