Cows -- What hormones, steroids, or whatever are given to them to increase product yield?

Question by Jim: Cows -- What hormones, steroids, or whatever are given to them to increase product yield?
...are they being given female growth hormones? Does it affect humans? Does this have anything to do with girls today looking more mature at younger ages than they did a hundred years ago?

You might find this interesting. Fortunately I live in the UK where hormone growth promoters were banned some time ago.

Not sure how reliable the research is though.

  1. I'm not sure what hormones they're given, but i am guessing that they do affect humans. I mean, there's so many people with cancer out there it isn't even funny.

Great question though, thats something my family in Mexico (where cows aren't hormone fed) and I notice.

  2. I remember a few years back when cattle ranchers used monosodium glutamate to enhance the flavor of their somewhat blandish product.
It was sort of a social taboo, but after a few years time I believe that people eventually began to appreciate as more of a catch-22 of the meat world.
One of those things where you know you shouldn't use it, but if you don't your stuff isn't as good.
I think that's why girls today look like yesterdays grandmas.
