What exactly about meat is good for you?

Question by beebs: What exactly about meat is good for you?
We are told that meat protein is essential to survival. We are told that we get vitamins and iron from meat. The truth is, we only get that because the animals are fed supplements to give them the vitamins we need (animals to not make B12 naturally, any more than humans do-they get it from their feed) Meat contains blood, pus, urine, feces, disease, growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics, purines, cholesterol, parasites, bacteria, amines, and a whole host of other things-there is no way to get the vitamins and protein without getting all of the other stuff. What is good about any of that? I can get all of the vitamins, protein, minerals, and other nutrients entirely through a plant and grain based diet. Please tell me why you think meat makes sense. Please, no silly answers like we are "designed" to eat meat, we are clearly not or we could hunt it, kill it, catch it and consume it without the use of tools or cooking. Intelligent answers only please
no bashing please

If we weren't meant to eat meat, why do we have cuspids (canine teeth)? They're designed for ripping and tearing. I've never eaten anything (aside from meat) that had to be ripped or torn.

Also, what about the people who eat free range chickens, beef, etc., that are not treated with antibiotics or fed special fortified grains or supplements...why don't they all have protein deficiencies.

The last time I checked, none of the meat I consume on a daily basis had pus in it. If meat were truly as bad as you make it seem, I would have been dead (or at least very, very ill) a long time ago.

I've yet to meet any meat eating people who developed a protein deficiency. I have, however, known several vegans/vegetarians during my life who were actually hospitalized due to malnourishment. And I don't mean they lived on lettuce and beans, I mean these were hard-core, health kick, did their research and knew what they were "supposed" to eat vegetarians/vegans.

  1. Some quick facts:

~France, which only has a fraction of the U.S. cattle population, has tested more cattle in a single week than the u.S. tested in an entire decade!

~According to Europe's latest annual report,it is testing at a rate 2,000 times that of the U.S.

I'll come back to this later but for now here is some interesting links

  2. Every vegetarian I know is pale, thin lethargic and just do not look very healthy. Obviously most people don't plant, cultivate and harvest their own vegetables...does that mean we are not designed to eat vegetables? Just because humans have developed a system where its one person's job to slaughter and another to harvest wheat does not mean it is flawed and we should just stop eating all together! I eat meat because it tastes good and my human body craves it for its rich nutrients...and if the only meat available had to be hunted by me then I would do it rather than just eat vegs.
