Should I start buying organic milk?

Question by Caesarion: Should I start buying organic milk?
I've heard some bad things about regular cow's milk commonly sold at most stores...like most other produce, growth hormone is used to create more product for less price.

So anyway, I was wondering if it would be worth it to start buying organic milk. The only problem is, it's very expensive. I can get regular milk for about $ 1.80 a gallon, while the organic milk runs for around $ 7 a gallon. Wow.

So what are your opinions? Should I buy into the skepticism about the regular milk, or just stick with it since I've been drinking it my whole life? I mean, just because cow's are injected with growth hormones doesn't necessarily mean that they are at a level high enough in the milk to harm the consumers of it. What do you think?
I do weight training and soy products aren't good for males trying to put on muscle. Screws up the good hormones.

As far as it lasting longer, that's never a problem for me, I down a gallon of milk a week. I have to try to stop drinking it so much so that I don't have to go to the market more than once a week.
Here's a link to some of the responses to a question I asked about cow's milk a few days ago:

  1. If you dont want to drink regular milk from cows given extra hormones, and organic is too exspensive, have you tried soy milk. I was hesitant at first, but I actually really like soy milk. You should give it a try. Its a good alternative to the other milk

  3. I think regular milk is just fine organic milk isn't bad, but why buy it if you already have good milk? Anyway, organic is like 7.50$ a gallon.

  4. Try Rice Milk, it wasn't injected with hormones or antibiotics, and you can even make your own for a fraction of that cost.

  5. The hormone given to cows is called BST Bovine Somatrotophine Hormone. This hormone makes cows produce more milk, but at the same time make them it a lot more. This hormone is basically a growth hormone.

It is true that BST may leak out into the milk we consume, but BST is made out of protein, hence when it reaches your digestive system, it will be broken down to its amino acids components then absorbed. it is as good as eating meat! Also, you must consider that human cells are different from cow cells, hence if the hormone gets into the body, the chances causing a major effect will be minimal. I don't think you have to switch to organic.
