Answer by ???r? °
Melatonin is the principal hormone produced by the pineal gland at the base of our brain. The pineal gland monitors changing light levels throughout the day and, sensing the approach of nightfall, increases its output of melatonin. Nighttime melatonin levels are 10 times higher than daytime levels. As we get older, not only does melatonin level decline sharply, the timing of melatonin release also changes. Melatonin levels in young people begin to rise earlier in the evening, peak sooner and higher than they do in older people. This contributes to the disturbance of sleep patterns experienced by many older people.
Melatonin also controls the timing and release of many other horrnones and strongly influences our circadian bio-rhythms. In humans, Melatonin supplement will enhance immune system function, improve sleep quality, stimulate release of growth hormone (GH), restore melatonin level to youthful level and extend maximum lifespan.
