Are whey isolate protein supplements ok to use as a teen?

Question by Matt: Are whey isolate protein supplements ok to use as a teen?
I know you have to work out for them to work, and I have a plan for that. But in general, is whey isolate a good supplement to use? Btw, I'm staying away from anything with human growth hormone. Not sure about creatine because I don't know our school's athletics policy is on that, but any recommendations are welcome.

Yes protein is completely safe to use. Creatine wont be against your schools policy. I would use it, but only take about 2.5 grams a day.

  1. There is nothing wrong with whey protein, isolate or otherwise. It is simply an isolated protein from milk. That's it.

There's also nothing wrong with creatine. We make creatine in our bodies. We eat creatine any time we eat meat. It is necessary for function. While coaches cannot give it, creatine is not banned by the NCAA. If your school has some stupid policy against it, you'll have to check, but otherwise it's absolutely a natural and totally legal supplement.

  2. Defenetly. They derive whey isolate from dairy. Basically they take milk, they seperate it and whey and cassien is left. whey is a great protein source. depending on how active someone is you need about 1 gram of protein per killogram of body weight. 1.3-1.5 if you are an athlete. The reason is when you excersize you burn carbs. when there is no more carbs you are going to burn fat and protein. Protein comes from alot of places (prymarily muscle). Creatine is not bad eather. In your muscle when lifting weights, you use ATP ( major energy source for cell) and creatine phosphate for energy. creatine will help you prolong lifting weights. when creatinine phosphate and ATP run out your muscle will be tired.
