Human growth hormone are only dispensed by prescription, injection only, and only if an endocrinologist determines that they are entirely appropriate for you.

They do have some unwanted side-effects if used when they should not be, like jaw growth, forehead ridge, and other things that make you look like Andre the Giant. (signs of acromegaly).

They will work for people whose epiphyseal plates have not closed (have not stopped growing), and that can't be determined solely by observing height. That pretty much narrows it to the teen years only.

Yes and no. Caffeine probably doesn't directly stunt growth, or no teenager would be tall :) However, you really should get at least 8 hrs of sleep a day; sleep is when your spinal discs stretch out again and allow for Human Growth Hormone to be released into the body. Sleep is pretty much the only time growth occurs, so it helps to get to bed at a good time. Caffeine makes it harder to sleep, so it indirectly could stunt growth a bit.

Don't mess around with any of that crap off the internet or any illegal steroids, you may end up doing more harm then good!
Go to the doctor and have him check your hormone levels, if they are low he may put you on some form of hormone therapy, if they are normal he probably won't.

No, its not safe for someone who is not deficient in this hormone...raising levels above normal can have serious side effects and impair your health. Its a myth that you will get "huge" from it! It only helps you grow during puberty. I am a woman in my 30s and take it daily for deficiency and I can tell you it has not made me get any bigger in anyway even when my levels got above normal! In fact, I felt awful with terrible body aches.

my daughter takes it, she has done since she was 4yr old, she's been on the injections for almost 10yrs. At almost 14yr old she's 4ft 6" tall, expected adult height will be 4ft 11" to 5ft. She has a real growth hormone problem, not just wanting to be taller
At 20yr old you are too old, your growth plates will have fused so it simply won't work, it's a very expensive treatment and the taller you are the more GH needed so the cost rises, just now the cost for my daughter is about £1200 (GBP) per month. don't ever, ever, ever take growth hormone if you have not yet been to an endocrinologist ( a doctor who specializes in glands and the hormones that are produced). GH will not make you taller. whomever tells you that is trying to sell something to you that simply won't work, and may not even be GH.
If you take GH without an endocrinologist's prescription, you can definitely throw all of your body chemistry off, including shutting your thyroid gland down. Once this happens, you won't even be able to lose weight, grow hair, feel rested, have a normal menstrual cycle, and you will probably die faster. Then your height won't be an issue any more. I know we women often want to look different than what we are meant to look like. Just know that you still can grow a few inches without taking that junk, and you are worth every bit as much as someone who may be a bit taller.

There is absolutely no reason to be on the Atkins if you are not trying to lose weight. And most people fail at it anyway. Fad diets don't work.
You are denying yourself lots of essential nutrients and essential energy from complex carbohydrates.

Over the years, people seem to just be getting bigger and taller. Why is this? Are growth hormones being put in food now?

good nutrition, better health systems to name a few. before people didn't have access to good food or any food at all. and if everyone is getting taller - they make children that are more likely to be tall as well.

My guess is no as your long bones have probably grown together by now and when that happens increases in height is stopped.

But then again I am not an endocrinologist, maybe you are different, but I would not wait long to see one as time is ticking.

Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) - causes the adrenal glands to produce cortisol (stress hormone) and other hormones that enable the body to respond to stress. Too much cortisol will cause growth failure in a child.
Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) - cause the sex glands (ovaries or testes) to produce sex hormones, which are necessary for adolescent sexual development and the growth spurt that accompanies puberty.
The major hormone produced by the posterior pituitary gland -is called vasopressin, or anti-diuretic hormone (ADH). It controls water output through the kidneys."

So, I may be foolish bit I'll assume that you are not a troll.

Human height is determined by things like nutrition and genetics. Even though ancient groups of humans may have had, in general, differences in their height, they were still members of the same species. Cultural differences between groups of ancient humans were probably influenced by a whole lot of different things (environment, food, resources), height might not have been that important, overall.

I haven't heard of any evidence of "giant" humans in the past. If you are referencing the stories in the bible, I'm not sure they are all backed up by scientifically valid evidence.

For helping children with deficiencies in HGH ... yes.

For treating adults with deficiencies in HGH that would otherwise lead to decreased strength and bone density ... yes.

To help a high-school or college kid beef up to be a bigger linebacker ... no.

To help a professional linebacker keep up with other professionals ... no ... but for different reasons. They're adults, and can do whatever they want to with their own bodies (as long as they are informed of the risks). But (a) as a lover of sport, it is (IMO) missing the point of what sports should be about; and (b) far more importantly, professional athletes are models for aspiring college and high-school athletes.

After puberty (i.e. growth plate closure) excess growth hormone causes acromegaly
So one would not grow in stature. Only body extremities such as fingers, toes and the nose would gain length.

Ya. Look up alitar overeem. He is a giant of a man. He took hgh and was suspended from the UFC. They monitered the whole time he was suspended. A year of not taking it made his testosterone levels drop dangerously low

Safe to take niacin while on antidepressants?

I've been taking antidepressants for the past week (Fluoxetine) and besides some dizziness, tiredness and once at night experiencing intense shortness of breath, they seem to be working well for my moods. (Also, the shortness of breath isn't an allergy as it isn't under 'allergic reactions' or 'serious reactions' in the leaflet but it is under general side effects, so I don't think the shortness of breath was too serious although it did feel quite severe that one time I was experiencing it).

Today I bought some Niacin (vitamin B3, 100MG) from Holland & Barrett as I understand it helps with fatigue and low moods and so far I have just taken 1. Its the flush-free version if that makes any difference to the effectiveness of it. I also read its good for encouraging human growth hormone and as i'm 18 and a slow developer I thought it could speed up my height as my family tend to have growth spurts around 18-20.

Is it safe to be taking these both together daily? Should I tell my dr? Why might I have issues with my liver?

I'm doing all the right things and I want to get as much height in as I can before I'm done growing. I've heard that peanut butter helps, but I really don't know if that has any credibility. I exercise, which is a proven factor, but I'm looking more in the foods department. I really don't think there is any miracle food for height, but I've really dedicated myself to this, and if you have any helpful advice please do tell.

I'm pretty certain that you can't do anything, it is mostly genetics. Of course there are bad habits like drinking and drugs that stunt your growth. Even saying this, I do have to say that my brother ate a whole lot of cereal growing up and he is now 6'9", but he has a tall family. I would be careful so that you don't put on weight.

This is just another reason why teachers should be wary of typed homework assignments. There is a difference between asking for a little help with one or two difficult questions and asking someone to do your homework for you.

Do you really trust just any stranger to do your homework for you? Do you expect to learn anything this way? If you are in "Advanced Biology," you really need to know this stuff. Start by reading the material and actually trying to answer most of the questions on your own. The tests are not going to be easy, especially if someone out in webland answered your questions for you.

Read the text, go to class and participate, and try to do your own homework. You may find that you are capable of a lot more than you are giving yourself credit for.

I only know one guy who takes HGH.

The only effective HGH is injections. And they must be taken often (I think at least once or twice daily). A doctor should prescribe it, although u can buy it without a prescription I think (In Canada...Don't know about USA or other places).

HGH pills, liquids (or anything taken orally) DO NOT work. Also injectible HGH is not cheap.

As for whether it would be good for u personally, I'm no doctor and couldn't even begin to answer it even if I saw u in person. U will need to consult a real doctor for a valid opinion.

You are usually done growing by about 21, so going on being taller than your parents, I would think that's it.

After that you start shrinking imperceptibly as your posture changes and gravity kicks in. Forget the hormone things they won't help and could give you nasty side effects.

Usually growing stops at the age of 21. My brother is still 17 and he has the height of 5"6. My father is 5"5. you can grow still and stop at some older age. You just have to eat nutritious foods. I recomend you not to eat junkfoods and foods that are high in carbohydrates because that makes you short and weak. You also sleep early anfhave enough sleep. You should sleep at the afternoon too. if you sleep in the afternoon, you became tall and in the night you became more intelligent, but that will happen if you have enough.

You could get arrested for child endangerment.
If it is a prescription medication for YOU & the child takes it - drug charges would enter the picture. Child abuse comes to mind. Any charges city, county, state or federal officers deem necessary.

The Department of Family & Children's Services would probably remove the child from the home because you are deemed unfit to be responsible for him.

I think I answer this question 4-7 time a week, if you search Y! Answers, you'll see 100s of responses telling you the same thing. "Weight Lifting DOESN"T stunt human growth!

There is ZERO medical evidence that weightlifting caused X individuals who were supposed to be Y tall to only reach Z in height.

Just like your hair color, eye color, sex, etc, your height is predetermined by your family genetics at the moment of conception.

If your difficulty to gain weight is due the physical illness, I do not think it should be illegal to prescribe growth hormones. But first they need to make sure that indeed your body is producing unnaturally low quantities of hormone by itself.

So that's a silly question. As everybody knows, athletes use steroids, human growth hormone, and a lot of other drugs to enlarge their muscles. On the other hand breast enlargement uses surgical implant. Surgically enhanced breasts don't really look like natural breasts.

So I've been wondering - is there some very deep reason why cannot we use similar hormonal techniques to enlarge breasts?

Is there a fundamental reason to it, or is it possible just not widely performed for practical reasons?

This is pure curiosity, I'm not planning a boob job.

Breasts are fatty tissue.
Larger women have larger breasts.
I am 5'7" and 115 lbs at 21 and am a B cup.
My friend is 5'7" and 140 lbs at 21 and a D cup.
If you want to have larger breasts, weight gain is the best option; however, there are obvious downsides to weight gain as well.
Other parts of you may not look as fit even though you will have larger breasts.

The truth is, we only get that because the animals are fed supplements to give them the vitamins we need (animals to not make B12 naturally, any more than humans do-they get it from their feed) Meat contains blood, pus, urine, feces, disease, growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics, purines, cholesterol, parasites, bacteria, amines, and a whole host of other things-there is no way to get the vitamins and protein without getting all of the other stuff. If we weren't meant to eat meat, why do we have cuspids (canine teeth)? They're designed for ripping and tearing. I've never eaten anything (aside from meat) that had to be ripped or torn.

Also, what about the people who eat free range chickens, beef, etc., that are not treated with antibiotics or fed special fortified grains or supplements...why don't they all have protein deficiencies.

The last time I checked, none of the meat I consume on a daily basis had pus in it. If meat were truly as bad as you make it seem, I would have been dead (or at least very, very ill) a long time ago.

I've yet to meet any meat eating people who developed a protein deficiency. I have, however, known several vegans/vegetarians during my life who were actually hospitalized due to malnourishment. And I don't mean they lived on lettuce and beans, I mean these were hard-core, health kick, did their research and knew what they were "supposed" to eat vegetarians/vegans.

I've heard some bad things about regular cow's milk commonly sold at most stores...like most other produce, growth hormone is used to create more product for less price.

So anyway, I was wondering if it would be worth it to start buying organic milk. The only problem is, it's very expensive. I can get regular milk for about $ 1.80 a gallon, while the organic milk runs for around $ 7 a gallon. Wow.

So what are your opinions? Should I buy into the skepticism about the regular milk, or just stick with it since I've been drinking it my whole life? I mean, just because cow's are injected with growth hormones doesn't necessarily mean that they are at a level high enough in the milk to harm the consumers of it. What do you think?
I do weight training and soy products aren't good for males trying to put on muscle. Screws up the good hormones.

As far as it lasting longer, that's never a problem for me, I down a gallon of milk a week. I have to try to stop drinking it so much so that I don't have to go to the market more than once a week.

No, not all forms of steroids are even detectable and new performance enhancers are being developed as we speak. Not just baseball, all sports have this issues because adequate testing doesn't exist. Not much can be done.

This is generally enough sleep for an adult, it's borderline for a teenager, but for growth purposes, should be plenty. (For memory purposes, extra REM sleep is good)

Are you male or female? If you're male, there's a chance you just haven't hit your final growth spurt yet - that's usually right around 13-14 years old... but if both your parents are fairly short, you're likely to be fairly short, too.

Overproduction or misuse of HGH can cause acromegaly, which isn't a condition you want either.

If you're concerned about your height being abnormal, talk to your family doctor and review the growth charts to see whether your growth progress over time has been typical.

Ok, this is just out of curiosity. I am not looking for exact, or web sites, or pictures, I am just wondering if there is a limit to how strong/big a human being can get, just by working out, without using any type drug growth-hormone.

Is there a limit? Like, if you keep lifting weights starting at age 14, then you keep going and going, will you keep getting bigger? (Lets use biceps as an example)

Will your biceps reach a point where it won't grow any more?

yes. it is determined by your body structure. Some people (naturally) have large bodies they are able to put on more muscle mass then others. You will hit a point where you cannot put anymore muscle (that's when bodybuildiers start to hit HGH. Most people (medium body) have 17 inch limit on biceps. Technically you cannot grow it any bigger then 17 inches.

I'm writing a story about a girl who's lost her memory and wakes up in the hospital a year or so after what she remembers. I'm asking if it's possible for her hair to grow this much in this time? And if not, is there some hair growth hormone or something? She was kidnapped and her captor likes long hair.

Not possible. Human hair grows at a rate of 1/4th an inch each month. Growth is slightly faster during winter, slightly slower during summer.
